Concentration

Why Concentration?

Students love Concentration. Teachers can direct their enthusiasm for the game toward improving student retention of basic facts related to a topic area.

This special version of Concentration, however, lets teachers customize the game as little or as much as they wish to match their topic.

The Concentration Star Interaction® presents a student with ten pairs of hidden tiles. When the student finds a matching pair of tiles, she is presented with a question that is relevant to the tile. If she answers the question correctly, then, after all of the tiles have been matched, the tiles associated with the correctly answered question fall away to reveal parts of a hidden image. A final question appears related to the hidden image. The more questions that the student answers correctly, the more the hidden image is revealed, thus making it easier to answer the final question.

Teachers provide the ten questions plus the final question. Teachers can also find an image related to each pair of tiles (10 images) or simply type in a word.

Teachers also provide the final question and the hidden image.

Additional Resources
Training guides, online tutorials, demos and update information for this interaction are available on our website.

Step One:
On the first page in lodeStar, you can replace the Starry Night image with an image of your own choosing. This image should relate to the final question. This image gets revealed at the end of the game.

Step Two:

Fill in Final Question to Solve the puzzle.

You should replace the existing question with one that is relevant to the topic. For example, in a botany lesson, if the final question related to identifying a plant, the picture should be of that plant.

The picture ideally should be 400 by 300. lodeStar will automatically scale the image to match the 400 by 300 size as closely as possible.

There is a default tile specified ay the bottom of this page. To change it, click the image and browse to an image of your own. Ideally the image should be 118 pixels by 118 pixels. lodeStar will scale the image to match this size as closely as possible.

Step Three:

10 questions follow.

For each question, please supply a question stem, the correct answer, and the three distracters (the incorrect answers).

A default game tile image is provided. This default image is intended to save you time in the event that you do not wish to find an image to match the question.

You may double-click on the image and replace it with one of your choosing.

Ideally the image should be 70 pixels by 70 pixels. lodeStar will scale the image to match this size as closely as possible.

Important Note: Oftentimes, teachers won't have time to find an image for each question. For each question, a teacher can type in a word instead. The word must be 10 characters or less and it will be placed on the tile. If a word appears in the Game Tile Word box, then the word takes the place of a picture.

You may have words on some tiles and pictures on others.

Step Four:

When you finished typing in all of your questions, click on the star button at the bottom right hand corner. A message will appear if you have successfully saved you file.
